Fosse Friday 019 - 20 September 2024: Cannon fodder, ducks and Cover
This week's update is trying not to think about how many Everton players haven't scored for a long time
The good
The wait for the WSL to return is over. LCFC Women get their campaign underway this weekend with a trip to face Liverpool in St Helens (a reminder they don’t get to play at Anfield regularly).
Kick off is 2pm on Sunday (22nd September).
It’s a first true look at Amandine Miquel’s team in a competitive environment after a varied set of pre-season results.
We’ve got you covered with a preview giving you the lowdown on the squad and our new manager. Here’s hoping this could be the year we crack the top half of the league.
A campaign has been underway for just over six months to Reform the Foxes Trust.
If you’re not on X/Twitter or messageboards and haven’t seen what it’s all about, here’s the latest from those leading it:
“We have submitted a request for a special general meeting to the Trust with the required signatures to do so. After many discussions, we’ve remained frustrated in our attempts for the board to join our vision in galvanising the Trust with new energy, ideas and strength.
The club’s continued errors have been unchecked over the summer with decisions such as £25 season ticket card charge, high match day prices, debatable sponsorship and a higher than market rate charge to watch pre season friendlies.
The planned Fan Advisory Board is still not in situ with a unfavourable format and the club already face missing their own self imposed schedule.
Despite best efforts of those involved, the Trust requires reform and change to represent all Leicester City fans.
As it stands it is too weak and easy to ignore for the club. As seen over the summer, it is increasingly urgent that supporters’ voices are louder than ever.
Numerous people have joined the Trust since our initial member drive back in February and wanted to find a body representative of LCFC supporters’ views. This is now your chance to shape it.
If you haven’t already, join the Foxes Trust and have the opportunity to vote in the reform of a more united, stronger supporters trust.”
Everton. It’s early in the season but this is already a game of mammoth proportions. Anything other than a win with Arsenal away up next and the pressure mounts.
But this is what we’re in it for, isn’t it?
This time last year Leicester defeated a Bristol City side that had one shot on target, no corners and 31% possession. The Pearson/King/James sideshow became more of a main event because of how uncompetitive the game was, even if it took a GOAT pen to see off the Cider Army.
It was difficult to get enthused about this type of encounter last season. We won’t have the same problem this weekend. Let’s get about them, Leicester…
World Mental Health Day may not be until next month, but it’s never the wrong time to talk. You may already be familiar with the work that the charity Mind does in partnership with LCFC in the Community but did you know there’s an adult wellbeing coffee morning at the King Power?
Part of Mind’s Good Mood Group initiative, it runs every Thursday morning between 10.30am and midday in the 1884 bar for you to drop in, meet some new faces, chat to the team or learn more about the other support Mind offers in Leicester and the county.
The bad
It’s great that the club are promoting tickets and travel for LCFC Women’s game against Liverpool, however the link on the official site not working is a bit shoddy. It claims tickets are available until you click the link which has been alternating between saying they’re not available yet and that sales have ended.
The modern day football fan generally seems to have less patience. Players have to hit the ground running or face total social media annihilation. Unfortunately, Tom Cannon, appears to be getting the latter treatment.
Stoke fans aren’t holding back in their early thoughts and some of the stick isn’t just for missing a penalty (it didn’t cost them the win). There were too many contenders to choose from but this is the general vibe:
If his confidence wasn’t already riddled with holes from how much his Leicester City managers didn’t rate him, this won’t help. Nor will the manager that brought him to Stoke getting the sack. Good luck winning them over, Tom…
We may have stuck it to the (Premier League) man with a very simple but legally viable defence of na-na-na-na we weren’t in your league not once but twice but it doesn’t appear to have deterred the EFL.
Our various statements last year at each other were definitely petty so it’s probably no surprise that if we’re relegated (it’s ok if you said when), they’ll look to charge us again. It’s just how long we’re going to make them wait to try.
The daft
If anything sums up the circus that is VAR then it’s a “were the lines correct?” debate. But… were the lines correct…?
When decisions go against Leicester then we’ll clearly side with the random social media account rather than Sky Sports if it suits our argument, but the daftest thing of all, if not the showing of the close-up angle of Mateta ahead of our two centre-backs, is the Premier League taking so long to bring in semi-automated offsides.
Almost makes you pine for the days of the Championship…
Somebody in your life that’s Leicester mad but owns every shirt, hat and overpriced training kit? Bet they don’t have LCFC carved ducks wearing rain boots though.
In a win for nominative determinism, on our trawl of social media looking for opinions on our loanees, we found this plea for cover at full-back from a Port Vale fan.
Ask and you shall receive…
Which brings us to…

Thing we learned
Over the past few days on our Instagram we’ve been asking whether you wish former players well.
Harvey Barnes got a resounding vote of confidence with 93% of responses being positive.
It was more of a mixed bag for Youri Tielemans, who ended up with 56%.
Coming soon, such luminaries as our old friend JM10 (who completed the latest lap of his reunion tour this week with a jammy late win at Cov), Timmy Chestnuts (who missed a penalty to send Fulham crashing out of the League Cup) and, of course, Ben Chilwell (who’s having a great time on the golf course).
One prominent face in the local media got in touch to say he didn’t wish any former players well and once they’re gone, they’re gone. We’re yet to unleash the N’Golo Kante test.
One last thing…
Everton at home brings back memories.
Kelechi Iheanacho’s VAR-awarded last-gasp winner…
James Maddison’s missed penalty and what could have been…
But most of all…
